A partir da próxima semana, o laboratório Janssen-Cilag da Companhia Farmacêutica Johnson e Johnson começa a aplicar a 3ª fase da vacina teste contra o coronavírus (covid-19) nos voluntários mato-grossenses. O estudo abrange o público adulto com idades acima de 18 anos, incluindo uma parcela significativa de voluntários com mais de 60 anos.
As primeiras duas fases de testagem da vacina resultaram no desenvolvimento de anticorpos detectáveis em 99% dos participantes com idade entre 18 e 55 anos. Se comprovada a segurança e a eficácia da vacina, a expectativa do laboratório é que os primeiros lotes estejam disponíveis para uso emergencial no início de 2021.

Além da vacina Janssen-Cilag, voluntários de Mato Grosso também receberão a dose da vacina chinesa Coronavac, elaborada pelo laboratório Sinovac, com o apoio do Instituto Butantan. Porém, ainda não foi divulgada a data de início de testagem.
Nenhum dos laboratórios informou a unidade médica ou a instituição de ensino em que funcionarão os centros de pesquisa, adiantando apenas que estes serão instalados em Cuiabá. A forma de seleção dos candidatos e a quantidade de doses que serão destinadas para o Estado também não foram informadas. Porém, ambos afirmam que essas informações estarão íveis à população ainda nesta semana.

Em se tratando do estudo desenvolvido pelo Janssen, o que já se sabe é que as duas primeiras fases consistiram em avaliar a segurança e imunogenicidade de dois níveis de concentração da dose, com esquemas de dose única e duas doses.

A análise inicial mostrou que uma única dose induziu uma resposta imunológica robusta e foi, em geral, bem tolerada. Esses dados foram consistentes com os resultados obtidos em estudos pré-clínicos, demonstraram que uma única dose da vacina impediu infecções subsequentes com sucesso e forneceu proteção completa aos pulmões de primatas não humanos.
Com base nesses resultados, a companhia dará andamento ao estudo global de fase 3, na qual o teste será feito em voluntários de 11 estados, incluindo Mato Grosso. A testagem também ocorrerá em dose única e duas doses.
Até o momento foi comprovado que a referida vacina desenvolveu anticorpos em 99% dos participantes entre 18 e 55 anos de idade. Além disso, 98% dos participantes apresentaram anticorpos neutralizantes contra o vírus no 29º dia pós-vacinação.
